Swansea is Tasmania 's oldest seaside town. It was first settled by the Welsh in the 1820s who named it Waterloo Point. It was renamed Swansea in 1842 and is today a classified historic town.

Beaches: Swansea boasts a choice a stunning conservation beaches either walking distance or a short drive from Wagner's Cottages:
- Cressy Beach: 3.5 kilometres south of Wagner's Cottages. A safe swimming beach with spectacular views of the Freycinet coast.
- Coswell Beach: a short walk from Wagner's Cottages. Crystal clear swimming and ideal for walks north or south along the coastline.
- Kelvedon Beach: 8-kilometres south of Wagner's Cottages, offering postcard-perfect views back to Coles Bay and Schouten Island. An ideal beach for long walks and penguin spotting.
- Jubilee Beach: located within the Swansea township, 2-kilometres from Wagner's Cottages.
- Mayfield Beach: 14-kilometres south of Swansea . A popular swimming beach, camping and fishing area.
- Spiky Beach: 6-kilometres south of Swansea opposite the Convict Bridge. Built in 1843, a popular picnic spot and great for rock fishing.
- Swan River: 4-kilometres north of Swansea. Popular bream fishing spot.
- Waterloo Point Beach & Coastal Walk: located in the Swansea township 2-kilometres north of Wagner's Cottages. It boasts short and all-day walks, picnic areas and spectacular views of the Freycinet Coast and Great Oyster Bay.
